Your role

Reporting into the Aer Lingus CISO, the Senior Manager of Cyber Engineering & Architecture is responsible for designing, delivering and continuously improving the organization’s preventative and protective cybersecurity controls. This role ensures security is embedded by design across enterprise platforms, cloud services, identity, endpoints, networks, applications, data and emerging technologies, enabling resilience, scalability and regulatory compliance.

The role leads a multi-domain cyber engineering function and governs security tooling, architectures and patterns that underpin effective detection and response capabilities delivered by Cyber Defence. Responsibilities to include:

  • Define and execute the cyber engineering & architecture strategy in partnership with the CISO, aligned to our business objectives, risk appetite and regulatory obligations.
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging cyber technologies and trends
  • Lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of security controls across devices, networks, cloud platforms, applications, identity and data.
  • Ensure security architecture and controls are scalable, resilient and aligned with enterprise architecture standards
  • Embed security-by-design principles across technology and product delivery lifecycles, including CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native services.
  • Provide engineering leadership to ensure cyber tooling and platforms integrate effectively with SOC, logging, monitoring and incident response capabilities.
  • Own the technical roadmap for cyber security platforms, including lifecycle management, upgrades, integrations and decommissioning
  • Build and lead high-performing cyber engineering teams and specialist partners, developing deep technical expertise across domains.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of cyber security tooling and platforms, including vendor relationships and service performance governance.
  • Define and govern engineering KPIs and control effectiveness metrics, feeding into Cyber Defence and Cyber GRC reporting.
  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to translate requirements into secure, pragmatic solutions.
  • Own budget planning and financial management for cyber engineering tooling, licensing and services.
  • Support cyber incident response by providing engineering expertise, root cause remediation and long-term control improvements.

 

Your qualifications and key criteria

  • 15+ years cybersecurity and/or IT engineering experience, in technical hand-on engineering and architecture roles.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership role leading technical teams, services or platforms.
  • Deep technical expertise in at least two security domains (e.g. cloud security, identity and access management, endpoint/device security, network security, application or data security).
  • Strong experience designing and operating enterprise-scale security architectures in cloud environments.
  • Experience governing security tooling portfolios, including vendor and cost management.
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications (e.g. CISSP, CCSP, AWS/Azure Security, or equivalent experience).
  • Strong skills in implementing defence-in-depth / zero trust strategies and enterprise security frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS Controls)
  • Excellent leadership, communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to translate risk and regulatory requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Proven capability to mature cyber security services using metrics, automation and continuous improvement.
  • Experience working effectively with outsourced service providers and system integrators.
  • Direct experience with cyber platforms such as Crowdstrike, Palo Alto, SailPoint, Microsoft Security stack a plus
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment
  • Experience supporting or responding to major cyber incidents from an engineering remediation perspective
